How To Improve Vision By Eating These 5 Foods

Can you eat your way to better eye health? Yes indeed you can.
Consuming the five super foods mentioned below can help you do just that:

#1 – Carrots:

You have probably already heard that carrots are good for your eyes. That is because carrots possess liberal quantities of that wonderful ingredient beta-carotene a type of vitamin –A, that is very good for one’s eyes. The same ingredient is responsible for the orange color of carrots. So the more carrots you eat, the better you can see them in all their orange brilliance! Beta –carotene is known to make the retina, the single most important part of the eye that actually makes one see, perform better.

#2 – Eggs:

All the foods that conventional wisdom dictates work well for us actually do just that. Take the case of eggs. You always knew that these were good for you generally. It so happens that eggs are excellent for the eyes as well. The reason why eggs are so good for one’s eyes again lies in what they contain- lutein, zeaxanthin and zinc. These ingredients are excellent at reducing the risk of macular degeneration. Macular degeneration impacts the retina leading to gradual and progressive loss of central vision. So you know what you need to be doing to prevent that-eat them eggs!

#3 – Almonds:

Another one of those sets of foods which we always knew were very good for us. These are a good source of vitamin-E, which again helps in preventing macular degeneration. Just two ounces of almonds a day meets one’s daily requirement of this vital vitamin. That should not be very difficult to manage on a daily basis.

#4 – Green Leafy Vegetables:

Popeye would definitely agree with this. Green leafy vegetables are laden with lutein and zeaxanthin, essential for preventing the onset of macular degeneration or even cataract. There is everything to be gained by making green leafy vegetables an essential part of one’s daily diet. So when someone asks you to go green, don’t restrict your actions to just preserving the environment!

#5 – Citrus Fruits:

These fruits are a rich source of vitamin-C, which helps prevent macular degeneration and cataract. Luckily there is a long list of citrus fruits one can easily incorporate into one’s daily diet. These include oranges, limes, lemons, grapefruits, tangerines, et al. Gorge on these freely, and you will be able to keep eye trouble at bay.

Thus we see that with a little care and due attention to what we eat on a daily basis, we can ward of eye related problems quite easily. Eye trouble can start quite early in life; therefore it is important that healthy eating habits are inculcated in children right from the time they are very young.

For adults too it is important that any diet related deficiencies are addressed early to prevent degeneration of vision. Our ability to see is the most wonderful of God’s gifts to us, and we should appreciate that fact and take good care of our eyes. Eating well is an important step in that direction.
