The increasing use of smartphones with those relatively small screens can strain a user’s eyes to the point of creating vision problems. It’s not the occasional use that is at issue, but the constant looking down hour after hour to watch a streaming movie or read Facebook posts. If you have heard of 20/20 vision, then there is a way to reduce to possibility of regular smartphone usage negatively affecting your eyes. Some vision experts suggest the 20/20/20 rule: for every 20 minutes of small screen viewing, you take your eyes off the screen for 20 seconds and stare at something that is at least 20 feet away. If you are indoors, this may not be as easy as you think, since the length of a room in the average house is between 8×10 and 10×12.

The vitamin D produced by your body when it is exposed to the sun is an added health benefit for your eyes.

Being Unfruitful

The final potential source of future eye problems is your diet, specifically a lack of natural fruit. This is not about carrots (it is a vegetable) with the vitamin K quality, but fruits that are high in vitamin C. One good piece of news is there is not a recommended list of specific fruits you should eat. Most fruits are high in vitamin C, so you can take your pick and improve your eyesight by enjoying what you eat.

Remember that you only have two eyes, and if you are like most people, you take them for granted until they become a problem. With a little preventative maintenance, you can keep your eyes in optimum shape for many years.
